OCHAG: Your Former Enemy is Your Best Friend
(April 2005-April 2006)

A project to help children of migrants and refugees, especially those from at-risk families, adjust to society in Sulazhgora. Workshops on puppet-making, music, and handicrafts have been started to help refugee children express their situation and problems through creative outlets. The children presented their creations in a city exhibition called “Children’ Fantasy 2005” and in a puppet production of “The Little Prince.” In addition, the refugee children participated in a drawing exhibition on the theme of “What I Know about War” and met with war veterans.
For teenage refugees, trainings on tolerance and civic skills have been organized on topics such as how to be tolerant, values, communication without conflict, and self-esteem. A role-playing workshop, called “Tomorrow Depends on Me,” was held to promote patience and understanding regarding cultural differences. Social events, including festivals and sports competitions, have also been held for the teens. Semi-monthly consultations are also held for refugee families and psychologists are working more closely with targeted risk groups.
