Karelian 4H
(2005-2006)

A training of trainers project for peer leaders in the Karelian 4H union. During 2005, three training sessions were held that trained a total of 99 participants from Karelia and Svetogorsk. Several young leaders from the Finnish 4H also participated as tutors. Each training session included workshops on the roles and responsibilities of peer leaders, planning club activities, handling difficult situations, giving and receiving feedback, and developing programs for actual case studies. Participants were also asked to lead games that developed communication and leadership skills, and fostered team building. The final training session focused mainly on project management and how to use international networking and funding to support local projects.
The second component of the project is a small grants program that aims to help local 4H clubs improve their activities, management and quality of community services. In 2005, several small grants were given and implemented in Petrozavodsk and Svetogorsk. For example, one club organized a small camp for orphans and another club cleaned and beautified a schoolyard.
