Doroga: Circle of Care
(January-December 2006)
This project, which builds on the 2005 Sovinto project, aims further develop and promote the use of restorative justice methods for dealing with juvenile crime. During the project, the victim-offender mediation volunteer service will be strengthened and expanded, and a database of social adaptation programs will be compiled. In addition, two new methods of restorative justice – “circle of care” and “family conferences” – will be introduced to specialists and institutions working with at risk children in Karelia. A three-day seminar about these methods will be held for social workers and a one-day seminar will conducted for school teachers. The project will also produce an educational film about restorative justice and hold a final conference.
As a result of the project, it is expected that preventive and rehabilitative work with at risk children in Karelia will become more effective, with the expansion of restorative justice methods promoting better social integration of juvenile delinquents.
