Council of Women of Petrozavodsk: Gifted Children—we learn, create and spend time together
(May-December 2005)
The goal of this project is to create better circumstances for gifted children (ages 8-18) from at-risk families to study, develop and relax. Families that are low-income, single parent, or have many children in them are especially targeted. The project organized creative exercises and competitions for poor children during the school year and held a summer camp to help gifted children living in difficult circumstances to develop stronger relationships with their peers. Activities to “help your neighbour” were also organized, such as the collection and dissemination of used clothing for poor families. In order to spread information about the project and about the needs of children in today’s society, the project held a seminar for NGOs on the rights of the child and published a bi-lingual (Russian-Finnish) calendar for 2006 with information about the project.
